I have been asked to do a job on 11 Dec but I won't do it as I shall be doing that date as part of a Christmas season...I'm not into one-offs in December. However, this is tempting as it will be a good one and a big payer.
Its at the Kings Hall in Stoke and for about 800 people, its a big household name company. The stage in the Kings is as big as some function rooms that we do and a big show is needed. The sound needs to be a decent 4k+ and properly configured...i.e. not just lots of mis-matching full range cabs stacked up. You will need a resonable lightshow and discharge would be ideal as its a big room for the lights to hold their own to the far ends...smoke is a definate no no. The show will have to be a fair size as it will look daft if its just a booth and 2 stacks of speakers on that stage...the stage must be about 30-40 foot long. The room is massive, in the old days it used to hold thousands for rock concerts...of course nowadays with fire regs and so on its legal capacity is reduced but there's still a large balcony and the whole room just swallows up sound. The DJ will also have to be able to stay cool working with that many folk, remember its their Christmas party and they will be mostly pizzed before they get there and it will prob get pretty manic and demanding. I'm not committed to this so it doesn't matter if I don't find anyone, money is not discussed but they know its no job for a £150 cowboy...if it was me it would be £750 or not at all. -------------------- Andy

I think the best thing to do is give the chap a ring and tell him I have 3 DJs that can do this no problem at varying prices and if he agrees I'll pass details.
Toppy...I reckon he will pay a kind of decent rate but it sounds like it might be a bit low for what you would want...anyway, best to let you quote and see. Personally I would do it with 6k, 4 Wizards and 4 lasers and some other lighting but not sure exactly what...maybe I made it sound bigger than it is...not sure but expect Stoke have a stoke.gov site and there is prob some info on their venues on there. -------------------- Andy

Just did a quick google for 'kings hall stoke' and there's loads of info, pictures, videos and seating plans of the venue.
You aint going to believe it but many years ago I did it with a FAL super 70 with its 2 12 inch crappy speakers and a Custom sound MOSFET90 and a pair of HH12s, think the lighting I used was 2 x Lampo Derby and 2 x Abstract Monster Moons...TBH the lighting was ok but the sound was pretty strained and you could have fried an egg on the little Custom Sound amp at the end...Oh the good old days...yeha -------------------- Andy

I'm really sorry but I can't find the card the chap gave me, I have searched everywhere...in my jacket and coat, dashboard and whilst out tonight I searched through my CD box and the zip pockets on my speaker bags and I can only think it must have dropped off my workstation when packing up.
The chap did have one of my cards too so if he rings me I will get the details. The party was for Kerrigold and the person was Craig, he is one of the directors and was a guest at a party I did for Walkers Crisps on 9 Jan. -------------------- Andy
