Booking Friday night, turned up nice and early local sports club in the middle of a residensial area, car park full so parked as near to the fire exit as possible but blocked in 20 cars in the process.
Went to the bar told them I was there, noticing the bright yellow PRS license on display behind the bar. Got the kit in as quickly as possible and managed to find somewhere to park. Set up the ultimax deck stand remembering to put in the verticals befor placing any kit on it. Set up the sound keeping everything in a tight a possible due to it been a small room. The club steward came up to me asking me to keep the volume down low, why I ask? I know it's a 50th anniversary and a smallish room but I would need some sound at some point in order to get them out of their seats. He told me they had a neighbour complain the weekend before and it transpired when checked they had no license for music, and their Solicitor was trying to resolve the issue but they had received an official visit only that morning. What do I do at this point the clients family were there, I went and introduced myself and informed them of what I had been told, they had been made aware a few hours previously. I was concerned over the implications of this so I said that I would be keeping the music as low as possible would not be setting up the LED light bars as they are very bright, and I did not want to draw too much attention to the room by making it obvoius there was a disco (especially as many properties overlooked the room). I shut the curtains, closed windows, and informed the client that I may have to limit any mic voice overs as my voice might carry too much and again I don't want to draw too much attention. I thought as it was a 50th anniverary the crowd would be older and they would appreciate the time to chat with old friends / family. I kept it to a level that I thought was ok, but the down side was I struggled to get anyones attention (they were sat in an annes to the room with the dance floor)They did dance for about 30 minutes all night. I was thanked at the end of the night and did say they would use my services again, I apologised (again) for the limited mic use, and not been able to get them dancing for much of the night, but they appeared to be happy with how it went. I won't be rushing back there in a hurry! -------------------- |
