I do a annual thing for the local M&S and its quite funny as my Mum is a regular customer of M&S and knows most of the staff so I was able to give her the dirt on most of them laugh.gif Having said that they are my second favourite lot, the one I do for H Samuels staff each year is wild...they are totally different to how they come across when you see them soba in the shop.

Damien...I'll keep my ears open for you but TBH I haven't had any enquiries other than the one I am doing for a semi-regular local hotel.

Know what you mean. Its an odd feeling being in on a Saturday night....especially when it doesn't happen very often.

I have my 2 children visiting, so took a kids 11th birthday booking in Stevenage.

Apparently the last DJ they hired (for her other daughter) didn't turn up angry.gif but we had a good chat on the phone and she called back and booked, with booking fee being in my account within a few hours. This was 2 months ago, so we've been in regular communications, which has also given her confidence that I will turn up.

I'm taking my 13yr old daughter as they want some games, and I do enjoy getting out front with the kids, but do need someone to start/stop the music.

I don't like doing too many kids parties, but providing its not going to interfere with Weddings/40ths etc, they are normally good, easy fun.

Jason

i used to do lods of kids parties and had some really good game and competitions for them.

but over the last 10 years ive noticed that they have changed dramtically and now do not seemed to get involved as much as they used to, plus you dont get the cheesy dancing songs any more which makes it harder. I was thinking when i did an 11th birthday a couple of months ago that they were only babies when the likes of s club, steps etc were about. Scary thought. I dont tend to do any childrens parties any more, i would rather do background music and PA on a wedding .. so much eeasier lol

I don't do kids parties, but I offer kids entertainment at the start of an evening wedding reception. Its proved to be popular and has secured me some good weddings.

Here's an idea for doing kids stuff if you fly solo like me. I always hadf the problem of having to run back to the rig etc......now i've solved the problem. Using my magix music maker program i made some 'filler' tracks of non descript instrumental music set at a low volume, but increasing in volume a couple of seconds before the end to warn me that the next song is going to start. So now i put a playlist up on VDJ, with my filler tracks between each song and set it to auto play. Now i set the first one playing, go out the front and stay there. As that song comes to an end the filler track starts giving me a bit of time to give out prizes and explain what we're doing next, then the volume increases which gives me just enough time to say 'ready everyone'....and the next dance kicks in. Because some of the dances/games need more explanation than others, I've done three different filler tracks of varying length. It works very well and is an ideal solution when you're on your own.

Not just a pretty face biggrin.gif

I love kids parties, I have a big glittery silver bean bag and sit them out front for the yes/no game and have just got a giant Connect 4 and Twister, the limbo always goes well with kids too. Thing is with the younger kids they are ready to party as soon as they run in through the doors and if I say 'right then who wants to play a game' they all come running with no need for coercing like adults.

lol!

Yes - I don't mind kids parties. My 1st year was quite a few, and I can see them drifting away. However, I'm a Dad to a 13yr old and a 10yr old.
I don't do 16/18/21sts -there are better guys for that, and to be honest, they want the light+big sound for not much money.
Last year, I did a 13th on a Saturday, followed by a gig in my local pub. It was an easy day and the income was ok.
My local is a friendly place, and I only play 4 or 5 times/year, mostly fridays so it does not interfere with higher priced gigs on a saturday.

For me, most work this year is weddings and 40ths. I did my daughter 13th last week;

My Kay is on the left!

Was a good night- did some very simple uplighting as it was in a school hall. Certainly wouldn't do that for a clients kids party (for free anyway).
Kay & Friends had a good night - and as Andy says- they come ready to party!!!

Shame you can't bottle that! (Sambuca is a close match though :-) loll)
